Life Choices




The Youth Peer Educators NGO LIfe Choices visited today with groups of learners from Ned Doman and Spes Bona High Schools. They were given an intro and orientation by Ian as well as tasked to be library agents and each to bring 5 new learners to the library. The facilitators from Life Choices were Anthony and picture below right Akhonya.

Africa Theatre returned this week to use our meeting room. Watched a DVD and demanded "lights out" during the showing! Neither the staff of Athlone Library nor the City of Cape Town accept any respons...............

The fine young Learners from Ned Doman Secondary sign the big Mandela Birthday Card which we shall be forwarding to the foundation. I don't think the big man is going to get to read it!.....But that does not say that we should not try!

Crime display


Apalling crime statistics were just released for the Athlone area this week. Murder rate are way up in the Athlone area. Street crime is down though. What an oustanding chance to promote our fine collection of crime fiction! Hence "CRIME is a scourge - read all about it."

Our Xenophobia display for July 2008 by Zahrah. We used the Premier's poster and clippings from our Xenophia files....which now extends to 5 books of clippings.

The good people from Safeline paid our library a visit this morning and a good time was had by all. Facilitators, Linda Meyer, Cystal Dirks, Deleon Lawrence, Helena Martin, Jay oppenheim And Fingling Yu help to encourage our local kids to love themselves, realise they are special and keep themselves safe.

Facilitators, Zelda, Anthea, Pamela and Zwelibanzi visit our library to run a workshop about the value of recycling. A craft session using waste material was also conducted.
